Garland was born July 10, 1920 to Algot and Nannie (Berquist) Nordlund in Littlefork, Minnesota. He served in the U.S. Army and received the Purple Heart for his service. He worked as a logger and lumberjack.
Garland was united in marriage to Donna Horgen on September 29, 1948.
Garland enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting and camping. He was a member of the Gideons and a member of the Littlefork Baptist Church.
Garland was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Donna in 1991 and brothers, William and Ernest Nordlund.
Garland is survived by his son, Gary Nordlund of Foley, MN, daughters, Pamela Hauner and Cathy (Ronald) Lee, both of Littlefork and son, Gil (Annette) Nordlund of Oak Harbor, OH; fourteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, brother, Rudy Nordlund of Ft. Myers, FL and sisters, Margaret Treat, Lucille (Clifford) Treat, Leona (Frank) Utter, all of Big Falls, MN, Delores Paul of Littlefork, MN and Mary Lou LeBeau of St. Louis Park, MN.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 19, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Littlefork Baptist Church in Littlefork. Interment will be in Oakley Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Littlefork Baptist Church in Garland's memory.
