Name: John Frank "Jack" Sullivan, 80
Died: February 23, 2010, in Littlefork Medical Center
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of husband, father and grandfather, Jack Sullivan, at the Littlefork Nursing Home on February 23, 2010, after years of failing health.

Jack was born in Carroll, Iowa on March 30, 1929 to Frank Sullivan and Berta Phillips (aka Betty Clear). He grew up in the villages of Burtrum and Grey Eagle, MN before moving on to join the U.S. Army Air Force in 1946 and served six years as a radar operator and supply sergeant in the Korean War. He loved to regale his family with his Army stories and was always extremely proud to have served his country overseas. After his military discharge, Jack was employed at Boise Cascade in the Insulite Division as a machine-tender on the #4 machine until the Insulite mill closed in December 1984, completing 38 years of service.

On September 17, 1955, Jack married Anna Mae Wietecha and together they started a family. They built a house on Shorewood Drive with carpentry help from family friend Don Fish.

One of Jack's sayings was that "the only mark a man leaves on this world is his family".

Left behind are his wife of 54 years, Anna Mae; his five children, Lisa (Reg) Cameron of Fort Frances, ON, Sharon (Curt) Aaseng of Hastings, MN, Maggie Sullivan Osman of Egg Harbor Township, NJ, Michael (Robin) Sullivan of Proctor, MN and Patrick Sullivan of Denver, CO. Jack's pride and joy were his grandchildren and their families, Heather, nee Campbell (Adam) Kennedy and son Campbell of Toronto, ON, Neil Campbell (fiance Jessie Dyson) and son Aiden of Gibsons, BC, Ryan Cameron of Fort Frances, ON, Airman First Class Nick Aaseng of Hastings, MN, currently serving with the U.S. Air Force in Afghanistan, Cathy Aaseng of Hastings, MN, currently attending UND-Grand Forks and Adam Osman of Egg Harbor Township, NJ. In addition, survivors include sisters, Letitia "Tish" Bruce, and Betty Sullivan; brother, Robert "Sully" Sullivan, as well as mother-in-law, Margaret Wietecha. Also left behind was his German Shepherd, Duke, who was his faithful friend.

Jack was preceded in death by father, Frank; mother, Betty; brother, James Prozinski and father-in-law, Louis Wietecha.

Jack was avid fisherman and hunter and loved the outdoors. He was a fishing guide on Rainy Lake for several years. He served as President of the Sportsmen's Club and also taught Firearm Safety. Jack was an excellent marksman and was a lifetime member of the NRA. He began to do custom ammunition re-loading to ensure that every hunter in the family had precisely the right ammunition for their firearms. Needless to say, Jack taught his children and grandchildren to shoot, hunt, fish and respect Mother Earth. The best memories will always be of when he took his family for a "hooky-day" to spear jackfish on Black Bay or to go for a snowmobile ride at night through the woods on a moonlight night.

Jack was cremated and a private memorial service will be held on Rainy Lake at a later date. Donations may be made in his honor to the Littlefork Nursing Home.
