away Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at Falls Good Samaritan Center.
Andrea finally lost her long battle with cancer after many
treatments, clinic visits and diagnostic tests. She was diagnosed
with cancer in 1987 and fought the disease for 24 years with several
remissions.
She was born Dec. 30, 1936, at Virginia, Minn. Andrea graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in January of 1958 with a bachelor of science degree in chemistry. She worked for Proctor and Gamble doing market research until she was hired by Boise (then M & O Paper Company) in research in 1959. She was later made research librarian until all research was moved to Vancouver, Wash. in 1976. She then worked in the Paper Division of the Boise Cascade mill until poor health forced her into early retirement in 1978.
The former Andrea Grant married James Janousek on Oct. 4, 1970, in
Wayzata, Minn. at her sister's home on Lake Minnetonka.
Andrea designed and drew up all the blueprints for her cabin/home and
was the first permanent resident of Gold Shores, living without
electricity, running water or phone; moving in in 1964.
A member of the Rachel Circle Group, she enjoyed gardening, flowers
and plants, woodworking, sewing, knitting, and cooking.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Ruth Grant.
Survivors include her husband, James; nieces and nephews, Chris and
husband Christopher Sorli, of Billings, Mont.; Greg and wife Toni
Palm, St. Louis, Mo.; Julie and husband Bob Forbords, St. Paul,
Minn.; and Andrea and husband Eric Spandle, St. Paul, Minn.; numerous
grandnieces and grandnephews; brother-in-law, Jerry Janousek, St.
Paul, Minn.; and sister, Gretchen Palm, Navarre Beach, Fla.
"Andy" was always open to talk to anyone about fighting cancer and
not giving up.
Funeral services are planned for 1 p.m. Monday, March 29, at Green-
Larsen Mortuary. The Rev. Sue Hamly will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, from noon to 1. Interment will be in the family plot at Hillside Cemetery, near Angora, Minn., in May.
